Lafo Anklets

SKU TN8

Lafo Anklets are a traditional accessory worn for Tongan Mako and Kailao (war dances). As the dancer moves, the lafo creates a rhythmic rattling sound that enhances the performance and complements the beat of the music. In Samoa, a similar accessory is known as Kifa and is used in much the same way. Each pair is handmade in Hawaiʻi using natural materials and features a braided cord for a comfortable, secure fit and adorned at the bottom of each set with strips of hau/fau. Each side measures approximately 3 feet long, including approximately 11 inches of adjustable ties. The hanging lafo seeds are spaced approximately 1.5 inches apart and hang approximately 3.5 inches down, creating a balanced look and producing a crisp, rhythmic sound with movement. Simply wrap the ties around your ankle and secure with a knot. Sold as a pair.
